Roland Breitenfeld

1952년 독일 Dresden에서 태어난 롤란트 브라이텐펠트는 1963-68년 Dresdner Kreuzchor의 멤버로 활동하던 기간 동안 Rudolf Mauersberger로부터 그의 첫 음악교육을 받았다. 그는 1974-75년 독일 Halle에 있는 Martin-Luther-University에서 음악학을 전공했고, 1978년 Zeuthen에서 Paul-Heinz Dittrich로부터 작곡을 공부하기 시작하여 1980-82년 드레스덴에 있는 음악원에서 Wilfried Kraetzschmar의 지도를 받았다.

 

1984년 이후 Freiburg i. Br.에 기반을 두고  프라이부르크 국립음대에서 Klaus Huber(작곡), Emmanuel Nunes(작곡), 그리고 Mesias Maiguashca(전자/컴퓨터 음악)를 사사하였다.

 

1987-93년 그는 다양한 출판사(Ricordi, Mailand 등)에서 프리랜서로 일하면서 Luigi Nono에 의한 라이브-전자음악 악보를 펴냈으며 Nono가 세상을 떠나기 전까지 많은 작업을 함께 하며 현대음악의 발전에 기여하였다.

 

그는 작곡가 이돈응과 함께 1991년에 전자 및 현대음악을 위한 앙상블인 profectio-initiative freiburg를 만들어 활동하고 있다. 1992년 이래로 프라이부르크에 있는 Experimental Studio에서 프리랜서로 활동하면서 1994년에 Foundation Kulturfond Berlin의 scholarship을 받게 되고 1995-96년에는 프라이부르크 국립음대 전자 스튜디오에서 컴퓨터 기보법을 위한 조교수로 일하면서 Baden-Wuerttemberg 주에서 scholarship을 받아 활동하였다.

 

1998년 이후 Mesias Maiguashca와 함께 K.O.–Studio (KlangObjekt–Studio)를 설립하여 컴퓨터 음악의 제작과 공연에 매진하면서 유럽과 미국, 아시아에서 컴퓨터 전자 현대음악가로 활약하고 있으며 전 세계의 여러 음악 페스티벌에서 전자음악디렉터로 활동해 오고 있다.

 

현재 그는 2006년 9월부터 서울대학교 작곡과 전자음악 교수로 재직하고 있다.
